1. Start with an allergen control plan. Find out what allergens affect you the most and then plan a cleaning schedule accordingly.
2. Keep your bedding clean to control dust mites. Also, air filtration devices in your bedrooms may help the air quality tremendously.
3. Clean your bathrooms weekly to control mold and mildew. Also, be sure to wipe up any water that may be standing around your bathroom fixtures.
4. Remove or tightly cover all food and water, especially at night to control cockroaches, which are the second largest group of indoor allergens.
5. Have your carpets professionally cleaned on a regular basis and use a vacuum that has a HEPA filter (99.7% efficient) in between cleanings.
6. Make sure you regularly check and replace filters on air and heating systems.
7. Use cleaning products as directed and in well-ventilated areas only.
8. Get rid of clutter where dust can settle and collect.
9. Perform a regular inventory of maintenance on all pipes and other places where water incursion may occur.
10. Make sure your cleaning process keeps in mind the dispersal of allergens that may further cause irritation.
